KAILUA KONA, Hawaii (October 25, 2016) -- Arizona State and Arizona duked it out down the stretch but in the end it was the Sun Devils outlasting their in-state rival to claim the Pac-12 Women's Preview title.

"We are thrilled with this win," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye to Arizona State Athletics. "We think the Pac-12 Preview is a terrific win in our schedule because the conference is so strong. It really is like another conference championship. We did a great job staying in the present and managing ourselves on the golf course."

Led by three players who finished in a tie for ninth, Arizona State completed play 2-over and ahead of Arizona by three. The Sun Devils combined to go 8-under during Tuesday's final round.

The group tied for ninth included junior Sophia Zeeb, sophomore Linnea Strom and senior Monica Vaughn. All three players came in at 1-over for the tournament but under-par for the closing day.

Freshman Olivia Mehaffey also cracked the top-15 for Arizona State, by the way of a tie for 13th finish at 3-over.

Behind Arizona State and Arizona (+5) in the team standings were 36-hole leader Stanford (+13) in third, Oregon (+29) was fourth while California (+30) Colorado (+30) shared fifth.

The medalist title went to USC sophomore Robynn Ree. For Ree who finished 6-under it was the second individual title of her career. Ree combined rounds of 70-73-70 on the par-73 lay out.

On Tuesday Ree birdied four times and bogeyed once to break free of a three-way tie at the beginning of the final round. Her birdies came on Nos. 3, 6, 13 and 18.

Mariel Galdiano of UCLA finished second at 4-under, Stanford's Albane Valenzuela was fourth at 3-under while three others were 2-under in a tie of fourth. The group included 36-hole co-leader's Kathleen Scavo of Oregon and Arizona's Gigi Stoll.

36-HOLE RECAP

It was a long day of golf but in the end Stanford was left holding the 36-hole lead of the Pac-12 Women's Preview. The Cardinals are 8-over and they will carry a two-stroke lead over Arizona and Arizona State into the final round at Nanea Golf Club.

With 36-holes in the bank Stanford is being led by Casey Danielson. Currently the 2012 All-Pac-12 honorable mention is 2-under after rounds of 68-76 and in fourth place. In her opening round on the par-73 layout, Danielson birdied six holes against one bogey. After beginning her round on the 8th, Danielson's most notable stretch came when she rolled in three consecutive birdies on Nos. 3-5 to finish her 5-under round in style.

The second round wasn't nearly as smooth for the senior as she bogeyed six holes and birdied just three.

One other player is in the top-10 for Stanford and it is freshman Albane Valenzuela. The Swiss Olympian is currently even-par and tied for sixth.

Three players currently share the medalist lead at 3-under; Gigi Stoll of Arizona, Oregon's Kathleen Scavo and and Robynn Ree of USC.

Stoll, a senior, has used rounds of 69-74. During her 4-under first round, Stoll birdied eight times and bogeyed three. She began her round on the fifth hole and birdied the first two holes before completing her day with five birdies in the last eight holes.

Scavo fired rounds of 70-73 to reach the top of the individual leaderboard. Her under-par first round was comprised of five birdies and two bogeys. The sophomore birdied the 5th, 6th, 10th, 13th and 18th holes.

For Ree, a sophomore, it has also been rounds of 70-73. Her first round was nearly flawless with only one blemish and four birdies.

The top-five of the team standings is rounded out by Oregon State (+21) in a distant fourth place and Washington State (+25) in fifth.
