STOCKTON, CA (October 29, 2016) -- Led by medalist winner Patrick Fishburn BYU has picked up their third win of the season, this time emerging victorious at the Pacific Invitational. BYU was able to run away with things thanks to a 9-under final round that put them at 18-under and 16 shots in front of second place finishers Grand Canyon (-2) and defending champion Sacramento State (-2).

“Our guys played really well from the start,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “On the second hole we had four birdies and an eagle. Getting six-under-par helped us get going and the guys played solid after that. Our challenge was to shoot the best score of the week and we did just that.”

Fishburn took home medalist honors with rounds of 69-69-66 at Stockton Country Club. The junior got his 5-under 66 final day off to a quick start with an eagle on the par-5 2nd that tied him for the lead at 6-under. Nine pars followed, but once again Fishburn was able to find some magic and from Nos. 12-16 he birdied twice, eagled again and also carded a bogey.

By now the 2016 Utah State Amateur winner was 10-under and despite a final hole bogey he had built up enough of a cushion to hold on.

“Patrick played great today,” Brockbank said of Fishburn's first career collegiate win. “He’s been so close so many times and it’s nice for him to finally get an individual win.”

Fishburn's teammate and 36-hole leader, freshman Rhett Rasmussen finished in a tie for second at 7-under. All five BYU players completed play inside the top-30 with sophomore Spencer Dunaway and freshman Peter Kuest tying for 21st at 2-over while senior C.J. Lee was tied for 28th at 3-over.

Also finishing tied for second with Rasmussen were Boise State's Brian Humphreys and first round leader Aaron Beverly of Sacramento State. CSU-Northride's Tavit Garabedian was fifth after a 6-under 54-hole score.

Rounding out the team top-five was Long Beach State (+1) in fourth and Seattle University (+2); Boise State (+2) in a share of fifth.
