ATLANTA, GA (October 31, 2016) -- Texas junior Scottie Scheffler won the inaugural East Lake Cup individual trophy with a round of 6-under 66. Scheffler was able to finish two-strokes clear of the field at the East Lake Golf Club.

After a slow start Scheffler got going with a birdie on No. 6, the first of three in a four hole span to reach 3-under for the front nine. Following the turn Scheffler reached 6-under with birdies on the 10th, 12th and 14th holes before dropping his only stroke of the day with a 16th hole bogey.

His birdie on No. 12 was one of the highlights of the day for Scheffler as his approach shot came to rest just inches away from the cup.

"I was just trying to get the ball in the fairway (today)," said now three-time individual winner Scottie Scheffler to Golf Channel Noah Begay III. "This course is very difficult but I was able to make a couple of birdies."

On the next hole Scheffler was able to right the ship with a par and then he sealed the deal with a closing hole tap-in birdie.

Nick Hardy of Illinois and Will Gordon of Vanderbilt both had chances to tie Scheffler on the final hole but were unable to convert their birdie putts. Hardy and Gordon ended up tied for second at 4-under. Texas' Doug Ghim was fourth at 3-under while Michael Feagles of Illinois placed fifth at 2-under.

Not only was an individual winner crowned on Monday but the seeds were set for the next two days of match play. The semifinals matches for Tuesday are as follows:

No. 1 Vanderbilt (-6) vs. No. 4 Oregon (+7)
No. 2 Texas (-1) vs. No. 3 Illinois (E)

The winning teams will meet in the championship match Wednesday and the two losers will square off in a consolation match.
