PRINCEVILLE, HI (November 1, 2016) -- Braden Thornberry and Ole Miss capped an impressive fall as both the team and individual picked up their third win of the fall. The Rebels won the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in wire-to-wire fashion while Thornberry came from behind on the final day.
As a team Ole Miss posted a 33-under tally to finish 22 shots in front of second place Sam Houston State (-11).
"I am running out of words to describe this group and what they have accomplished this entire fall season," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "What they did these last three days is as impressive as anything that I have been a part of in college golf. Each of these guys has stepped up throughout the fall and have been a major key to our success."
Thornberry surged to the top of the individual leaderboard with a final round bogey-free 5-under 67 at Makai Golf Club at Princeville that pushed him to 13-under and three in front of second place finishers Andrew Ertel of Sam Houston State and East Tennessee State's Mateusz Gradecki.
During the final round Thornberry rolled in birdies on Nos. 2, 5, 8, 12 and 14. The sophomore completed his fall with three wins and a top-five finish in every event that he competed in. His previous wins came at the FAMC Intercollegiate At The Grove and the Auto Trader Intercollegiate.
"Braden has certainly had a fall to remember. To win once in college is special, but to win three times in one semester is amazing," Malloy said. "We need to get back and take some time away from the game and reflect on what a special season it's been so far."
All five Ole Miss players finished under-par and inside the top-20. Redshirt senior Noah West finished fourth at 9-under, redshirt sophomore Josh Seiple was tied for 16th at 2-under while senior Ben Wolcott and junior Kerry Sweeney shared 18th at 1-under.
The top-five of the team standings were concluded by No. 24 Missouri (-4) in third, Arizona State (-2) in fifth and Louisville (-1) in fifth.
