PALM BEACH, FL (November 6, 2016) -- Each of the last two years Pete Williams finished inside the Crane Cup Senior top-10, this year he was able to finish atop the leaderboard. Williams began the final day in a three-way tie for the lead but was able to pull away throughout the final round to win by five-strokes at the Floridian Golf Club.
Williams closed with the round of the week, a 4-under 68 to finish 4-under-par overall. The victory is the Juno Beach, FL resident's first career AmateurGolf.com Ranking event title.
George Zahringer and Rick Woulfe began the round tied for the lead but both shot 1-over 73's to finish in a tie for second at 1-over. Zahringer had held at least a piece of the lead at the end of each of the first two rounds.
Jack Hall ended up in fourth at 2-over and Duke Delcher was 4-over in fifth.
ROUND TWO RECAP
With one day remaining at the Crane Cup Senior hosted by the Floridan Golf Club George Zahringer, Pete Williams and Rick Woulfe share the lead. The trio are even-par and leading a tightly packed field.
Zahringer led alone after the first round but fell back to even-par after a second round 2-over 74.
Williams put together a second round under-par tally of 1-under 71 to offset his first round 1-over 73. In each of the last two years Williams has registered top-10 finishes at the Crane Senior Cup.
The final member of the leading trio is 2014 Crane Cup Senior winner Rick Woulfe after rounds of 73-71. This year Woulfe picked up a tie for 12th at the British Senior Amateur.
Duke Delcher is fourth at 1-over only one back, Jack Hall and Lewis Stephenson are tied for fifth at 2-over. Grady Brame, 3-over through 36-holes, is seventh but only three back.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Only four players were under-par after the first day of the Crane Cup Senior and it is George Zahringer leading the way. Zahringer opened with a first round 2-under 70 and he leads a trio of others by a shot at the Floridian Golf Club.
So far this year Zahringer has top-15 finishes in two AmateurGolf.com Rankings events, the National Senior Hall of Fame and Trans-Mississippi Senior. Zahringer also picked up a win when in May he repeated as the MET Senior Amateur winner.
The second place trio at 1-under is comprised of Jack Hall, Jim Lehman and John Finnin. In fifth it is Grady Brame at even-par. In all 10 players will begin the second within five shots of the lead.
