SYDNEY, Australia (November 12, 2016) -- With one round left to play at the New South Wales Open amateurs Connor Syme and Brett Coletta are tied for fifth at 15-under. The two will begin the final round at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course seven-strokes behind 54-hole hole leader Adam Blyth.

Syme, from Scotland, shot up the leaderboard on Saturday with a 8-under 64. The 2016 Australian Men's Amateur winner began his day with five front nine birdies to turn in 5-under 31 before rolling in four more birdies and his only bogey of the day on the backside.

2016 has been an impressive year for Syme as he has earned points in 16 AmateurGolf.com Rankings events. At the British Amateur Syme earned medalist honors while picking up fifth place finishes at the European Amateur and Scottish Open Amateur. Syme made a run to the semifinals at the Scottish Amateur Championship as well.

First round leader Australian Brett Coletta moved to 15-under with a 5-under 67 in the third round. Coletta who recently won the Queensland Open, carded six birdies during his day and bogeyed just once.

When Coletta won the Queensland Open he became the first amateur to win the title since 1991 when Stuart Appleby accomplished the feat. If Coletta were able to rally on Sunday he would become the first amateur since Greg Norman in 1983 and 1986 to win the Queensland Open and NSW Open in the same calendar year.
