SF City Championship: Scarff is Qualifying Medalist
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2007) -- Reid Scarff of Oroville played bogey-free golf during the championship division qualifying portion of the San Francisco City Championship this weekend and took medalist honors at 6-under-par 134. Scarff, 22, shot 70 at Harding Park on Saturday with birdies on Nos. 9 and 15, then added a 4-under 64 at Lincoln Park on Sunday, his first time ever seeing the short-but-tricky course that overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge.

"I was fortunate to tee off early Sunday before the winds started blowing, and I took advantage of the good conditions," said Scarff, whose round included two birdies and an eagle.

Scarff is playing in the San Francisco City for the first time but he does have a track record of match play success that dates back 6 years when he won the Chico City Championship. He resides in Stockton, where he is taking a semester off from University of the Pacific.

Finishing three strokes behind Scarff at 137 was Kory Storer of San Mateo while Andrew Biggadike of San Francisco qualified at 139. Notables who advanced to match play include 6-time champion Gary Vanier, 2-time champion Jim Evans, and 1999 champion Randy Haag, who is coming off victories in the last two amateurgolf.com events at Coyote Creek and StoneTree.

64 players qualified for match play with an 11-for-2 playoff at 151 determining the final two spots -- RC Orr and Rex Aberle survived that playoff.
