Savannah, GA (December 4, 2016) -- The Savannah City Amateur may have been delayed six weeks because of Hurricane Matthew but that didn't make Sunday's victory any less sweat for Tripp Coggins. Playing at Bacon Park Golf CourseCoggins finished 5-over and after trying to win the event for nearly two decades he finally broke through and landed in the winners circle.
“(The Savannah City Amateyr) has always been a tournament I wanted to win. It’s like our local major,” Coggins told the Savannah Morning News.
The final round was a bizzare one for the 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball contestant as he overcame four double-bogeys by rolling in five birdies to sign for a 3-over 74. By just holding on throughout the round Coggin was able to defeat second place finishers Kevin King, the 2013 winner, and Terry Richter by three shots.
Coggins first tried to win the tournament as 15-year-old when he finished second in the darkness shortened 27-hole event.
The Senior Division was won by Bob Remler and Lonnie Breslow claimed the Legends Division.
