BOULDER CITY, NV (December 18, 2016) -- It wasn't the easiest of final days but former PGA Tour player Edward Fryatt held on and won the Southern Nevada Championship. Fryatt finished 7-over and ahead by six-strokes, following the challenging final round at Cascata Golf Club.
For Fryatt, his victory on Sunday was his third SNGA win of the season to go along with victories at the SNGA Match Play and Mid-Amateur. Fryatt has also tied for second at the Crane Cup and Carlton Woods.
Craig Erickson and John Turk were 13-over and in second, Jack William Trent (+15) was fourth and Cyrus Whitney (+16) placed fifth.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Edward Fryatt is the only player under-par and he leads the Southern Nevada Championship. Fryatt fired a 2-under 70 and he will carry a sizable five-stroke lead into the final round at Cascata Golf Club.
The day for Fryatt began on the 2nd hole and it started with a disappointing bogey. The former UNLV golfer then birdied two of the next three holes to briefly reach red figures only to return to even-par with a 6th hole bogey. A string of pars followed until Fryatt rolled in birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to reach red figures for good.
Cyrus Whitney is a distant second at 3-over. Whitney did birdie five times but he also bogeyed six times and double-bogeyed once. Alex Jordan (+4) is third while Ryan D. Bolton (+5) and John Turk (+5) share fifth.
