Dixie Amateur: Trent Wallace opens with 7-under 65

CORAL SPRINGS, FL (December 19, 2016) -- Illinois State sophomore Trent Wallace was lights out on day one of the Dixie Amateur firing a 7-under 65 to take a two-stroke advantage. Wallace will carry a two-stroke lead into the second round over the 5-under Jorge Villar.
On Monday, Wallace (Joliet, IL) played TPC Eagle Trace and he was part of the second group off as he posted his score early in the day. So far this year Wallace's best finish with Illinois State came in the form of a tie for fourth at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic.
Villar, teeing it up at Heron Bay Golf Club shot the round of the day on the course that will be hosting the final round come Thursday. The native of Mexico signed for a 5-under 67.
A quartet of players are three behind at 4-under and that group includes --Alan Cooke (West Virginia), Kyle Flexsenhar (USF), Evan Gfeller (North Greenville) and Paxton Shuman (Coastal Georgia).
In all 16 players broke par on the first day of play. Following the conclusion of competition on Tuesday there will be a 36-hole cut.
