PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (February 6, 2017) -- Following the 36-hole first day of the Sea Best Invitational No. 3 Florida has its finger prints all over the leaderboard. The Gators, 8-under, currently lead the team standings and own the top three spots of the individual leaderboard as well.
On Tuesday Florida, the leaders by one, over No. 16 North Carolina, will be looking for their third win of the season. In the fall they claimed the Windon Memorial Classic and Tavistock Collegiate Invitational titles while also finishing as the runner-up Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.
Playing at host course TPC at Sawgrass Dye Valley the Gators have been led so far by senior Ryan Orr. On Monday Orr, playing as an individual, used rounds of 67-66 to post 7 under and take a three shot lead over sophomore teammates Alejandro Tosti and Gordon Neale.
With the exception of a two hole stretch in the first round that saw Orr go double bogey, bogey the Belleair, FL resident was solid throughout the day. Orr rolled in 11 birdies, just three additional bogeys while also providing the highlight of the day, a hole-in-one on the 158 yard par 3 fifth hole. The ace came on the seventh hole of Orr's second round.
With one round remaining Orr is hoping that he can register the first win of his college career. Orr has twice previously finished fourth, including last year at the Sea Best Invitational.
The closest pursers to Orr are his earlier mentioned teammates Alejandro Tosti and Gordon Neale. Both players are 4 under after turning in identical scorecards of 68-68.
Behind the Florida trio are three others tied for third at 3 under; Cristobal Del Solar of Florida State, Gabe Lench of Liberty and Jacksonville's Ryan Jahn.
In the team standings No. 16 North Carolina is the only other team under par at 7 under and they are in second place. Lipscomb is 1 over and in third, No. 25 Florida State is fourth at 2 over and the 3 over Razorbacks of Arkansas are fifth
