LA QUINTA, CA (February 20, 2017) -- Two Cardinals are at the top of The Prestige at PGA West standings as No. 8 Stanford shares the day one lead with Pepperdine.

Playing at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West Stanford was led in the first round by Franklin Huang and the top-ranked amateur in the world, Maverick McNealy.

Huang, a junior, is currently 4-under after a 67 and he is co-leading the medalist race. On the front nine Huang birdied twice to turn in 2-under 34. The strong play for the 2016 All-Pac 12 second teamer continued on the back nine with three more birdies and his lone bogey of the day.

Tied for the medalist lead is Arizona State senior Jared du Toit. With three top-10 finishes already this year du Toit reached 4-under with an interesting round. Du Toit birdied five times, bogeyed once, carded a double-bogey and also eagled the par-5 16th.

One shot behind Huang is McNealy following his 3-under 69 that put him into a tie for third with PJ Samiere of San Diego State.

On Monday McNealy was able to roll in six birdies while also bogeying three times. The birdies for McNealy came on the second, fourth, 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th holes. This week McNealy is making a bid for his Stanford program record 12th individual title.

Pepperdine was helped to the top of the leaderboard by none other than Sahith Theegala. Less then 24 hours after completing his week at the Genesis Open Theegala turned in a 2-under 69 to pace the Waves.

Theegala got off to a slow start with a 2-over 37 front side but he was able to bounce back with a bogey-free 4-under 32 back nine. The sophomore carded four birdies on the side, all in a six hole stretch from Nos. 11-16. Theegala will begin the second round in a seven way tie for fifth.

Pepperdine also received strong rounds from Joshua McCarthy (70), Clay Feagler (71) and Robert Geibel (71).

Behind the team co-leaders are No. 15 San Diego State (-2) in third, No. 11 Oklahoma (+2) in fourth and Iowa State (+4) in fifth.
