MRYTLE BEACH, FL (March 12, 2017) -- Rain and sleet on Sunday resulted in the cancellation of the General Hackler Championship final round. As a result 36-hole leading Wake Forest took home a 10-stroke victory in the rain-shortened event at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

No. 15 Wake Forest was 15-under after play on Saturday as they picked up their second team title of the season. The Demon Deacons were led by junior Will Zalatoris who at 9-under medaled for the third time in his career.

“We knew going into yesterday’s first round that there was a possibility of a 36-hole event,” said head coach Jerry Haas. “The team came out ready to play. They had great preparation as many of them spent their spring break in Winston just practicing. This core group of juniors and sophomores have brought us close to 10 team and individual victories over the past two seasons. The quality of play, leadership and team unity are things I really cherish. I feel like if we had to have played today we still would have brought the title home.”

The top-five of the team standings was rounded out by No. 8 LSU (-3) in third, South Carolina (+8) is fourth and Virginia Tech (+10) is fifth.
