ACAYA, Italy (March 19, 2017) -- On Sunday at Circolo Acaya Golf & Country USC junior Sean Crocker completed his wire-to-wire run at the Italian International Amateur with a 1-under 71 final round. Crocker finished his spring break trip abroad 7-under and five shots clear of runner-up Idomar Ayoub.
In Sunday's final round Crocker came out of the gates firing with birdies on the 1st and 4th holes to pull away early in the day. Overall Crocker, ranked 15th in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings, birdied three-times and bogeyed twice during the final round.
Markus Maukner finished third at at 1-under, fourth place was taken by Sami Valimaki at even-par while defending champion Victor Veyret placed fifth at 1-over.
ROUND THREE RECAP
The spring break trip to Italy is continuing to pay off for USC junior Sean Crocker. On Saturday Crocker fired a third round 1-under 70 to move to 6-under and extend his lead at the Italian International Amateur to three shots.
Crocker birdied twice on Saturday at the Circolo Acaya Golf & Country, on the 7th and 9th holes, while bogeying only once on the 13th.
Now with one round to play Crocker will be charged with holding off a host of challengers in the final round. The group in pursuit is being led by the 3-under Sami Valimaki, Idomar Ayoub is in third place at 2-under, Pierre Pineau is in fourth at 1-under and Jorge Maicas is in fifth with an even-par tally.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Spring break in Italy for most would be a relaxing time. While I'm sure Sean Crocker is enjoying some of his time abroad he is also putting in a hard days work. The highly ranked USC junior is playing in this weeks Italian International Amateur and at the midway point he is the leader by two shots.
Playing at the Circolo Acaya Golf & Country, Crocker has put together rounds of 68-69 to reach 5-under.
In the second round Crocker was able overcome a closing double-bogey and two additional bogeys with six birdies.
Sami Valimaki is in second place at 3-under, Jorge Maicas in third place at 2-under, in fourth place it is the 1-under Branimir Gudelj while Pierre Pineau sits in fifth place at even-par.
ROUND ONE RECAP
A talented leaderboard headlines day one of the Italian International Amateur at the Circolo Acaya Golf & Country. On Thursday Jorge Maicas, defending champion Victor Veyret and USC junior Sean Crocker turned in 3-under 68's to share the lead.
Veyret won the title last year with a 4-under 68 on the final day to finish 14-under and the winner by four shots.
Crocker turned in his strong first round while thousands of miles away he was named to the 2017 Team USA Arnold Palmer Cup team.
David Hague and Luca Cianchetti are tied for fourth at 2-under while four others are 1-under and tied for sixth.
Overall 24 players will begin the second round of the 72-hole event within five shots of the lead.
