BLYTHEWOOD, SC (March 27, 2017) -- For the
second year in a row the amateurs have
defeated the pros at the Palmetto Cup Matches.
After jumping out to a commanding 18.5-2.5
lead on day one at Columbia Country Club the
top amateurs in South Carolina kept their foot to
the gas as they defeated the South Carolina pros
31-11.
With that comfortable lead to start day two
the
amateurs were simply in do enough to win mood
and that is just what they did on Monday. The
amateurs won the second session 12.5-8.5 in the
Captains Choice format.
Overall, the SCGA has won the Palmetto Cup
matches 19 times while the SCPGA has won 15
times. There has been one tie and in 1997 the
matches were rained out.

grabs during the two day event.
DAY ONE RESULTS
After the
first day of the Palmetto Cup Matches the South
Carolina Golf Association has opened up a sizable
18.5-2.5 lead over the South Carolina PGA.
Day one of the 35th matches at Columbia
Country Club featured Four-Ball play with one
point
up for grabs on each nine and one point available
overall.
On Sunday, of the seven matches, the SCGA
picked up three sweeps as they won every
match.

ABOUT THE
Palmetto Cup
The Palmetto Cup Matches, the annual grudge match
between South Carolina’s best amateurs and club
professionals, has become one of the top team
competitions of the year.
The Palmetto Cup matches feature 14 regular South
Carolina Golf Association amateurs and four senior
amateurs, competing against the top 18 South
Carolina Professional Golf Association pros, four of
those being senior players as well. The amateurs,
along with the pros, are selected by points earned in
each association’s major events throughout the year.
The matches have two forms of competition involved
in the two-day event. The first day, matches features
a Four Ball format while the second day is being
played as Captain's Choice matches. The scoring
system allows for three points a match for a total of
54 points available.
