LAHAINNA, HI (March 28, 2017) -- Impressive is the only word that can be used to describe UCLA sophomore Lilia Vu at the moment. Through two rounds at the Spring Break Classic only five players are under-par, and of that group only one is better then 2-under. That one is Vu, who at 11-under holds a nine-stroke lead with 18-holes remaining at The Bay Course.

Thanks to that stellar play Vu has also powered her Bruins to a 4-under tally and an eight-stroke lead over Arizona State. The Sun Devils are currently 4-over and in second place, San Jose State is third at 9-over, Colorado at 14-over is fourth and Stanford is in fifth at 15-over.

The Cardinals are making a bid this week for their fourth straight win but they are playing without Andrea Lee and Albane Valenzuela. Lee is scheduled to appear in this weeks ANA Inspiration, while Valenzuela who was scheduled to play in the event as well is out due to an unfortunate on campus bike accident earlier in the week.

Alright, enough about who isn't in the field this week and back to Vu. On Monday Vu opened with a 5-under 67 before coming back Tuesday and doing one better with a 6-under 66 to reach 11-under. In round two Vu played a flawless round of golf that included birdies, two of which came on the first two holes.

Through 36-holes Vu has birdied 12-times and bogeyed a measly once.

In addition to Vu four other Bruins are inside the top-20 as the teams looks for their first win of the year; Mariel Galdiano (T9; +2), Erin Choi (T9; +2) and Bethany Wu (T16; +3).

Behind Vu in the medalist race in second place are My Leander (San Jose State), Linnea Strom (Arizona State) and Olivia Mehaffey (Arizona State) at 2-under while Monica Vaughn (Arizona State) is 1-under and as the final player in red figures she is fifth.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Individual leader Lilia Vu rolled in six birdies on her way to a 5-under 67 as she helped UCLA into the first round lead at the Spring Break Classic. Vu, one of just three players under-par, and her Bruins will begin the second round at The Bay Course 3-over and the leaders by two over second place Colorado and San Jose State.

Arizona State, at 9-over will begin the second round in fourth place and in fifth place it is Stanford at 11-over.

UCLA in search of win number one on the year saw all five players turn in top-25 rounds on Monday. Lilia Vu started her round on the 8th hole and after two pars she birdied five-times from Nos. 10-16 and then rolled in an additional birdie on the 1st. Her only bogey came on the 3rd hole.

Bethany Wu turned in a 2-over 74 and she is tied for 16th while Mariel Galdiano, Clare Legaspi and Erin Choi are all tied for 23rd after 3-over 75's.

The only other players under-par are Monica Vaughn (Arizona State) and Esther Lee (Colorado) at 1-under as they share second place. Five other players sit at even-par in a tie for fifth.
