LAHAINNA, HI (March 29, 2017) -- It was all UCLA this week at the Spring Break Classic. Led by the stellar play of medalist Lilia Vu the Bruins cruised to a 12-under finish and a 17 shot triumph at The Bay Course. For UCLA this was their third win of the season.
As the only team to finish under-par UCLA left runner-up Arizona State (+5) in the dust while San Jose State (+13) was third, Colorado (+20) was fourth and Stanford (+23) was fifth.
UCLA was led throughout the week by wire-to-wire individual winner Lilia Vu who finished a tournament record 12-under and seven shots in front of the field. Vu has now won consecutive individual titles after claiming the Bruin Wave Invitational earlier in the month.
Following rounds of 67-66 the sophomore closed with a 1-under 71 that included six birdies and five bogeys. During the final round the birdies for Vu came on Nos. 1, 2, 6, 9, 10 and 15.
For the tournament Vu birdied 18-times and bogeyed six-times.
Three other UCLA Bruins completed the week inside the top-15; Mariel Galdiano (4th; -3), Erin Choi (T6; E) and Bethany Wu (T12; +3).
For Choi her tied for sixth finish was a career best.
The top-five of the individual standings was rounded out by runner-up Monica Vaughn (Arizona State) at 5-under, My Leander (San Jose State) was third at 4-under, Galdiano was fourth and Olivia Mehaffey (Arizona State) as the final player under-par at 1-under was fifth.
Of Note: The Cardinals had been making a bid this week for their fourth straight win but they played without Andrea Lee and Albane Valenzuela. Lee is scheduled to appear in this weeks ANA Inspiration, while Valenzuela who was set to play in the event as well is out due to an unfortunate on campus bike accident earlier in the week.
