Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland is tied for second

EDMOND, TX (April 15, 2017) - No. 4 Oklahoma State took control late in the second round and on Saturday they completed their fourth win of the season at The Maxwell. The Cowboys finished their postseason tune up at Oak Tree Golf Club 9-over and six in front of New Mexico and No. 13 Oklahoma. No. 2 Baylor ended up fourth at 30-over while UCLA and Liberty shared fifth at 31-over.
Four Oklahoma State player turned in top-20 performances led by individual runner-up Viktor Hovland. Hovland, even-par, posted rounds of 71-69-70 and ultimately finished one shot off the medalist pace.
Oklahoma State's Zach Bauchou tied for sixth at 3-over, Zachary Olsen was tied for 10th at 4-over and in a share of 19th was Hayden Wood at 7-over.
In the medalist race Hidetoshi Yoshihara turned in an even-par final round to hold onto his 36-hole lead. Yoshihara, 1-under, finished the tournament as the only player under-par as he birdied twice and bogeyed twice.
The victory for Yoshihara was the first of his freshman season and it followed up three other top-6 showings.
Behind Hovland in second place of the medalist standings came Matthew Perrine of Baylor at 1-over and Andrej Bevins of New Mexico; Grant Hirschman of Oklahoma in a tie for fourth at 2-over.
36-HOLE RECAP
With a late surge No. 4 Oklahoma State, 7-over, will take a two shot lead into the final round of The Maxwell hosted by Oak Tree Golf Club. On the 36-hole first day the Cowboys were led by three players turning in top-10 performances.
After a day where scoring was difficult the low Poke is Viktor Hovland who at even-par is among a group of four tied for second. Hovland turned in rounds of 71-69 and he will begin Saturday's final round one shot off the pace set by Hidetoshi Yoshihara of UCLA.
During his second round 1-under 69 Hovland birdied three-times and bogeyed twice. The birdies were carded on Nos. 2, 5, 17.
Behind Hovland for Oklahoma State are Zachary Olsen and Zach Bauchou in a tie for seventh at 2-over.
Yoshihara, the only player under-par at 1-under, was able to take over the medalist lead with two completely different rounds. In the morning round it was a 2-over 73 that he followed up with a 4-under 66.
In his second round, Yoshihara started on the 3rd hole and got off to a quick start with an opening birdie and a total of four in his first ten holes. His only bogey of the round came on the 13th with his final birdie falling on his last hole, the 2nd.
The top-five of the team standings is completed by the even-par tied for second group of Matthew Perrine (Baylor), Rylee Reinertson (Oklahoma), Hovland (Oklahoma State) and playing as an individual Nick Heinen (Oklahoma State).
New Mexico (+9) led until late in the day and they will begin the final round in second place, No. 13 Oklahoma (+11) is in third, No. 2 Baylor (+19) resides in fourth while Liberty (+23) is fifth.
