BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 24, 2017) - Collin Morikawa, the 20-year old Cal golfer, has been named Amateur of the Month (March) by the Southern Golf Association (SGA) after an impressive showing in multiple events.

Morikawa secured his first collegiate win last month during the ASU Thunderbird Invitational after posting a three-round score 13-under 200, the second lowest of his collegiate career. This was also the first time that a Cal golfer has ever won the Invitational.

Morikawa then went on to finish 2nd in the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate after losing in a playoff to Grant Hirschman of Oklahoma.

Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are determined by a blue-ribbon national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Lee McCoy & Aaron Wise.
