HUTCHINSON, KS (April 25, 2017) - After the first round four-time defending Big 12 champion Texas was 11 shots off the pace but now after a 36-hole Tuesday they are tied for the 54-hole lead with Oklahoma State at 30-over. The Longhorns were a Big 12 Championship record 39 strokes better from round one to two on Tuesday.
No. 15 Texas was led to the lead thanks to day two rounds of 70-68 by Scottie Scheffler. With the weather unkind so far this week at Prairie Dunes Country Club Scheffler is 5-over and tied for the medalist lead with Brad Dalke of Oklahoma.
After an even-par 5-over 75 on Monday Scheffler started his 36-hole Tuesday with an even-par 70 in the second round and then a five birdie, three bogey 2-under 68 tally in the third round.
Scheffler, the medalist at the 2016 East Lake Cup, carded his third round birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 6, 14 and 16.
Doug Ghim (6th; +8), Steven Chervony (T7; +9) and Gavin Hall (T17; +12) are all inside the top-20 for Texas.
No. 2 Oklahoma State led following the first round and with one round remaining they are still part of the lead. Zach Bauchou, tied for third at 6-over, is the low Cowboy and his third round even-par 70 was his best round of the week.
Three additional Oklahoma State players inside the top-20 are; Kristoffer Ventura (T10; +10), Zachary Olsen (T13; +11) and Viktor Hovland (T17; +12).
Third place in the team standings belongs to Oklahoma (+41), Kansas (+44) dropped to fourth place and No. 4 Baylor (+46) is in fifth.
Oklahoma's Brad Dalke made his way to the top of the medalist lead on Tuesday after rounds of 68-74. Dalke's 2-under 68 in the second round was his best round to this point as he card included five birdies and three bogeys. Just weeks removed from his Masters appearance, Dalke started his second round with birdies on two of the first three holes.
Behind Dalke and Scheffler in the individual standings are Chelso Barrett (TCU) and Bauchou in third at 6-over, Chase Hanna (Kansas) at 7-over in fifth.
