ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (May 8, 2017) - Walter Todd carded a second round score of one under par 71 for a two-day total of 141 to take the lead in the South Carolina Senior Championship headed into the final round.
After a first round at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course that included six birdies and four bogeys, Todd managed a much more consistent day throughout the second round. The Laurens native made par on the first twelve holes he played, highlighted by a 30-foot par saving putt on ninth after playing his second shot from within the hazard. A three-putt bogey on the par five 13th was his only blemish of the day. The 56-year-old finished strong making birdie on the par three 16th hole for the second day in a row and then another birdie on the par five 18th.
Sitting two shots back at 143 are first round leader Todd Hendley and Geno Berchiatti. Hendley, the two-time Senior Champion, made a double and a bogey on the two par fives on the backside to leave him at one under par for tournament. Berchiatti had an up and down day making five birdies, four bogeys and one double during his round for a final score of 73.
60 players made the cut with a score of 163 or better. The Final round will begin on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. on #1 and #10 tees with the lead group beginning at 9:30 a.m.
