Maverick McNealy of Stanford with the Ben Hogan Award
FORT WORTH, TX (May 23, 2017) -
Maverick McNealy of Stanford University won the Ben Hogan Award at a ceremony in Fort Worth Monday night.
The Hogan Award, given annually by Colonial Country Club, Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America, honors the nation's top Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer over the past calendar year.
This is just the latest in a long line of accomplishments for the Stanford senior. McNealy was the winner of the Mark H. McCormack Gold Medal as the world No. 1 player in 2016. He represented the United States at the 2016 World Amateur Team Championship and has been named to Team USA for the upcoming Arnold Palmer Cup. His fall victory at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club was his 11th career win, tying him with Tiger Woods and 2014 Hogan Award winner Patrick Rodgers for most in Stanford history.
The other finalists were University of Oregon senior Wyndham Clark and University of Illinois junior Dylan Meyer.
McNealy won the award in his third year as a finalist, tying Bill Haas for the most times so honored. He is the second Stanford winner in the past four years and is the sixth straight Hogan winner from the Pac-12 Conference.
With the award, he will receive an exemption into the PGA Tour's 2018 Dean & DeLuca Invitational at Colonial, plus a $32,000 grant for the Stanford men's golf scholarship program.
McNealy will close out his collegiate career at the NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, Illinois, starting on Friday.
