COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (May 27, 2017) -
Mike McCoy and
Gene Elliott continued their dominance of Iowa amateur golf on Saturday, shooting a final-round 63 to win the Iowa Four-Ball at Bent Tree Golf Club.
Brian Allison and Jordan Dye started the final round with a two shot lead over five teams,
with McCoy and Elliott in that chase group. But Allison and Dye could only produce two birdies in their final round, and fell back with a one-over 73.
McCoy and Elliott were flawless in the final round, with nine birdies (four by Elliott, five by McCoy) leading to a 63 for a 128 total and a two shot win. For the tournament, the winners had fourteen birdies and an eagle, with no bogeys.
George Qian and Jack Kennedy had consecutive 65s to finish solo second at 130, with Matt Weeks and Matthew Pitts third at 132.
This was the third straight win in this event for McCoy and Elliott, and the fourth overall for each player (each has won once with a different partner).
Each has won numerous Iowa state titles, including six Iowa Amateur wins for McCoy and three for Elliott.
For Elliott, it was his second win in three days. On Thursday, he won the Trans-Mississippi Senior at Indian Wells, CA before flying home to Iowa and teeing it up with McCoy for the first round the next day.
