CASTLE ROCK, CO (May 31, 2017) - Tripp Kuhlke (Evans, Georgia) and Jeff Knox (Augusta, Georgia) posted 6-under 66 today and grabbed the 36-hole lead at the Charlie Coe Invitational at
Castle Pines Golf Club.
The 2013 champions just miss being almost old enough to compete in the senior division. We're not so sure they are ready to play as senior division players even if they qualified -- these guys obviously have the game to compete with Mid-Ams in a game where age is increasingly "just a number." Just ask Bernhard Langer.
Anyone who has seen Jeff Knox play as a marker at The Masters (often beating his pro partner) knows that he's got the complete package.
Ted Neville (Tucson, Arizona) and Andy Latowski of San Francisco put up a 5-under 67 today to get to 6-under and two shots back of the leaders heading into the final round. The pair, who won the tournament in 2014 played golf together at Penn State.
The defending champions Jonathan Marsico and Ben Hayes are part of a five team logjam tied for third at 5-under 139, after shooting 70 today.
First round leaders Eoin Middaugh, and partner Sean Lim (who shot 6-under 66 on Wednesday) slid back into a tie for 9th after sliding to a 3-over 75 in round two.
SENIOR DIVISION
In the Senior division, 137 leads the way with Castle Pines member Hollis Sullivan (Westworth Village, TX) and Jeff Dillard (Fort Worth, TX) shooting 67-70 and Ben Hargis (Alexandria, LA) and Bart Dornier (Alexandria, LA), shooting 69-68. The team of Mike Booker (Houston, TX) and Pat Youngs (San Antonio, TX) are one shot behind at 138.
