LEWISTON, NY (June 9, 2017) - With a flawless 5-under 31 on the back nine
Lois Kaye Go finished 8-under and as the winner of the Women's Porter Cup hosted by
Niagara Falls Country Club.
The rising Boston College sophomore started quickly on Friday with birdies on the first two holes and then carded a third on the 5th hole. Go did drop her only stroke on the 9th hole but she was still able to turn in 2-under 34.
Unfazed by the bogey Go exploded on the back nine to pull away from the field. Her first birdie of the side came on No. 11 before she really got rolling with four in a row with birds on Nos. 14-17. Overall Go birdied eight times and bogeyed once to sign for a 7-under 65.
Lauren Waller was second at 3-under, Naomi Ko took third at 1-under, at 1-over Katie Sharp was fourth while Mika Liu, Rylee Pedigo, Jackie Rogowicz and Nikolette Schroeder shared fifth at 2-over.
ABOUT THE
The Porter Cup, one of the premier amateur
events in the nation, now has a "sister" event -
The Women's Porter Cup. Starting in 2023, the men's and women's Porter Cup championships are run concurrently with 54 players in each field and alternating tee times. It's been exciting seeing the top players in each division in final pairings on the par-3 18th hole at Niagara Falls CC, with large galleries always appreciative of the rising talent.
