SPARTANBURG, SC (June 16, 2017) - Eight players remain at the 45th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship as 24 players were eliminated on Friday at the Carolina Country Club.

Medalist Todd White of Spartanburg is one of the remaining eight, beating Wil Sheppard of Mt. Pleasant 3&2 in the morning, followed by a 19th hole win over John O'Brien of Columbia in the afternoon. O'Brien was one up heading to the 18th, but found the water to give White a lifeline. "I was just happy to be going to the 19th hole," White told the Carolinas Golf Association. "I knew there was life then and I just had to execute the shot."

White will face Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head Island in Saturday's quarterfinal and is looking forward to the match. "I have known Andrew for a number of years now from when I was teaching in Hilton Head. Everyone knows that he is a great player, but more importantly he is a quality young man and a great asset to golf."

Orischak had a tight match in the morning, edging Matt Carter of Easley one up, before beating Thomas Todd III of Laurens by a much bigger 5&4 margin. "The best thing that I did today was that I did not make a bogey," said Orischak to the CGA. "One of my goals in match play is to not make too many mistakes and try to keep it pretty steady. I just stayed really patient and I knew I was playing some good golf. Patience and consistency were things I was focusing on today."

Robert Lutomski of Simpsonville also booked his spot in the quarterfinals, beating Austin Zoller of Summerville 4&2 in the morning and Brandon Coggins of Gaffney 4&3 in the afternoon. "I played pretty solid," said Lutomski to the CGA. "I played steady all day and made a lot of pars." Heading into the quarterfinals, he plans to bring the same approach that has given him recent success. "If you can control your spin into these greens and keep hitting close like I have been, eventually the birdies will go in."

Brady Hinkle of Lancaster, who won last year's South Carolina Junior Match Play, advanced to the quarterfinals after a one up victory over Christian Garruppo of Hilton Head. Also advancing was Stan Sill of Spartanburg, who beat Jake Corn of Rock Hill on the 19th hole. Julian Keur of Summerville advanced with a 2&1 win over Logan Sowell of Kershaw. Parker Dudley of John's Island defeated William Harwoord 5&3 and Nick Russell of Hilton Head scored a one up win over J.J. Jordan of Ninety Six to also advance to the quarterfinals.

The defending champion, Connor Bruns of Duncan, fell in the first round to Brandon Coggins of Gaffney by a 3&2 margin.

Saturday will once again feature two rounds of matches to whittle the field down to the final two players for Sunday's championship match.
