MIDWAY, UT (June 20, 2017) - Dan Horner won the Utah Mid-Amateur Championship at Wasatch Mountain State Park Tuesday, shooting a final round 7-under 65 to overtake overnight leader Jacob Boyce and pull away from the field for a six shot win.

Boyce started the day at 10 under, one shot ahead of Horner and two ahead of Jon Wright and Darrin Overson. But Horner soon took control of the tournament, going out in four-under 32 and coming home in three-under 33 highlighted by an eagle at the par-five fourteenth. Horner's closing 65 put him at 16 under for the tournament and a 200 total.

Boyce could only manage an even par 72 and finished joint runner-up at 10-under 206.

Wright (70) and Overson (70) finished tied with Boyce at that number, as did Kurt Owen, who closed with a 67.

This is Horner's fourth major state title but his first since 2013 when he won the State Four Ball with partner Overson at Sand Hollow Golf Resort. The pair also won the Four Ball in 2011.

That same year (2011) Horner also won Utah Mid-Amateur by one shot at Alpine Country Club.

Horner's first major state title came at the 2008 Utah State Amateur at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
