The Stanford verbal commit looks for his first AJGA win since the 2016 KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational.

“I was able to capitalize on all my opportunities,” Vilips said about his low round. “I’m feeling good about my game and keeping the momentum into the next two days.”

The three-time AJGA champion explained, “I love playing in events like this because there are the best players in the country and I can really prove myself to people.”

Andrew Lewis of Carmel, Indiana, sits in second at 6-under-par 138. Lewis fired five consecutive birdies on the front nine, earning a second round total 4-under-par 68.

Jacob Bridgeman of Inman, South Carolina, finished the day in third at 1-under-par 71 for a tournament total of 5-under-par 139.

After carding a second round total, 6-under-par 66, Jennifer Chang of Cary, North Carolina, leads the Girls Division heading into the third round. The University of Southern California verbal commit broke the women’s competitive course record which was previously set by Youngin Chun of Gainesville, Florida, in the first round.

Chang holds a tournament total of 6-under-par 138 and is seeking her first AJGA victory after finishing in the top five at 2016 Rolex Girls Junior Championship.

The 17-year-old carded two consecutive birdies on Nos. 2-3 and a total of seven birdies during her second round.

“It was totally unexpected,” Chang said. “It’s my first time going into the third round leading in any Invitational and I’m pretty excited.”

Kaitlyn Papp of Austin, Texas, and shot a 1-under-par 71 and Yealimi Noh of Concord, California, carded a 3-under-par 69 to tie for second with a tournament total of 2-under-par 142.

Three of the Top 5 girls have committed to play golf at the collegiate level.
