PEABODY, MA (July 1, 2017) -Robert Funk was the lone amateur to make the cut at the U.S. Senior Open hosted by Salem Country Club and in the third round he shot a 5-over 75 to fall to 6-over for the tournament.

After making a cut on the number Funk went off alone in the third round and on a cloudy, muggy day bogeyed four-times and double-bogeyed once while carding his lone birdie of the day on the par-4 7th hole.

Second Round Conclusion Update: Robert Funk went bogey-par-par to finish at one-over 141 and make the cut on the number and he will be the only amateur to play the weekend at Salem Country Club. His reward? A tee time by himself. Since there was an odd number of players making the cut, and with play over the weekend going off in twosomes, Funk started the third round first off the tee playing as a single.

PEABODY, MA (June 30, 2017) - Play was suspended at the U.S. Senior Open late in round two with 24 players still on the course. At the time of the suspension, two amateurs found themselves near the cut line with the chance to play the weekend at Salem Country Club.

The low 60 players and ties will advance to the weekend and play all 72 holes of the championship. At the time of the suspension, the projected cut is one-over-par 141, with 61 players at or below that number.

Of the 20 amateurs who started the championship, only two have a chance to play the weekend.

Robert Funk of Canyon Lake, CA started the day at one under and picked up a shot on his first nine (he started on the back) to get to minus two. But he started his second nine by going double-bogey and falling to one over. He rebounded with a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole to get to even par for the championship, and that's where he sits with three holes to play.

Funk and the other 23 players yet to complete their rounds will resume play at 6:45am Saturday.

While Funk's fate is in his own hands, Matt Sughrue of Arlington, VA will have to rely on some luck to make it to the weekend. Sughrue opened with a one-under 69 and was still one under through 11 holes on Friday. But a bogey and double coming in dropped him to two-over for the tournament with a 73 on the day.

Chip Lutz of Reading, PA, who was the only amateur to make the cut at last year's U.S. Senior Open, had a good round on Friday, a one-under 69. But it won't be enough to play all 72 holes this year as Lutz finished at three-over 143.
