PEABODY, MA (July 2, 2017) - On Sunday Robert Funk of Canyon Lake, CA completed his week at the U.S. Senior Open hosted by Salem Country Club with a 2-over 72 to finish 8-over and tied for 54th.

Funk, the only amateur to make the cut, birdied twice on the opening nine but also double-bogeyed twice on the side to turn in 2-over 37. After the seesaw frontside Funk, who won the 2013 Southern California Mid-Amateur and 2012 Crane Cup, steadied himself and played even-par flawless golf on the back nine.

For Funk his best round of the week was his opening day 1-under 69 that saw him birdie three-times and bogey twice. Funk was 2-over for the round after 14 holes but he surged down the stretch birdieing three of the final five holes, including the last.

ABOUT THE U.S. Senior Open

The U.S. Senior Open is one of 15 national championships conducted by the USGA. Open to amateurs and professionals who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of the championship.

The Senior Open was first played in 1980 with a purse of, get this, just $100,000. Roberto Vincenzo of Argentina was the inaugural champion (winning $20,000), and Arnold Palmer was a popular winner the following year in 1981 at Oakland Hills.
