TOPEKA, Kansas (August 10, 2017) -- Overland Park's Jeff Bell and Wichita's Elliot Soyez teamed up to win the 2017 Heart of America Four-Ball Match Play Championship at Topeka Country Club on Wednesday.
The pair defeated five teams en route to the tournament’s title, an event that players qualify for based on top-16 finishes in the Kansas Four-Ball and Kansas City Four-Ball.
After hanging on in a 1-up victory over the team of Travis Mays and Brent Mertz, Bell & Soyez bested the the Manhattan team of Brian Fehr & TJ Vilkanskas by a 5&4 margin in Wednesday's 36-hole final match.
The final would begin steadily, with the teams halving the first three holes, but after taking the No. 4 for themselves, it was all Bell & Soyez until closing the door on their opponents with a winning 4 on the match’s 32nd hole.
For Bell & Soyez, it is the second team title of 2017 after claiming the KGA's Mid-Amateur Team Championship back in May.
