LEBANON, TN (August 17, 2017) - The first two rounds of match play at the Senior Match Play Championship took place Thursday at Five Oaks Golf & Country Club. Despite the No. 1 seed and co-medalist losing in the quarterfinals, and incredibly talent final four remain.

Bob Rice made relatively quick work of his opening round match, a 5&4 victory over Patten Smith. The defending champion squared off against Jeff Golliher, the No. 1 seed,in the quarterfinals. The defending champion continued his title defense with a 3&2 victory.

Buzz Fly opened match play with a commanding 6&5 victory. Fly, who qualified to play in the upcoming U.S. Senior Amateur, continued his strong play in the quarterfinals. Fly, who won this event in 2013, defeated Craig McElhaney 4&3 to earn a date in the semifinals against Rice.

Danny Green labored in his opening match, but eventually won 2&1. Green, who was a co-medalist in stroke play, met Ken Lee in the quarterfinals. Once again Green had to see nearly the entire golf course before earning another 2&1 victory. Remarkably, Green is the only player left that does not have his name on the Senior Match Play Championship Trophy.

Tim Jackson also opened with a commanding 6&5 victory in the Round of 16. Jackson, the 2015 Senior Match Play champion, had a much closer contest in the quarterfinals. Jackson eventually outlasted Greg Guinn 2&1 to set up a clash of the TGA titans in the semifinals. Jackson and Green will square off in the semifinals.

SUPER SENIOR DIVISION

Ed Link, who made a hole-in-one during stroke play qualifying, won his quarterfinal match 2&1 to set up a semifinal against stroke play medalist Dan Schorsten. Link pulled of the upset in impressive fashion, punching his ticket to the finals with a 4&3 victory. On the other side of the bracket the No. 2 seed Dr. Neil Spitalny advanced to the semifinals with a 4&3 victory in the morning. Spitalny kept rolling right through the semifinals where he defeated Five Oaks member Doug Ryerson 7&5 to make the first ever Super Senior Match Play Championship Match.
