MIAMI, FL (December 23, 2017) - Petr Hruby carded rounds of 75-68-74 to finish 1-over and then won a playoff to claim the Doral Publix Junior Classic Boys' title. In the playoff Hruby outlasted Alejandro Madariaga.

During Hruby's final round round 2-over 74 the Czech Republic native was unable to find a birdie but a run of pars after his second and last bogey on No. 14 helped him earn his playoff spot.

Hruby's best tally came on Friday during the second round in the form of a 4-under 68 that included five birdies and a lone bogey on the 18th hole.

Runner-up Alejandro Madariaga of Mexico shot rounds of 75-70-72 during the 54-hole event at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. In the final round Madariaga birdied five-times and bogeyed five-times.

American Michael Thorbjornsen finished third at 2-over, while American Nikita Gubenko and Jayson K Iten of Switzerland shared fourth at 4-over.

GIRLS' DIVISION

Sparked by a 3-under 69 in Thursday's first round Sophie Guo finished 1-over and as a four-stroke winner.

Columbia's Cristina Ochoa was second at 5-over, American Siyan Chen was third at 7-over while at 9-over in a tie for fourth it was Celina Rosa Sattelkau of Germany and Natalie Armbruester of Switzerland.

Since 1981, formerly known as the Doral Publix Junior Golf Classic, the First Tee - Doral Jr. Classic has hosted thousands of competitive junior golfers from across the globe in the city of Doral. The experience consists of competitive rounds of championship play, the Adamonis Cup — a one-day match play tournament featuring top players from Florida squaring off against top players from the Northeast, as well as trophy ceremonies after the championship final rounds. The final winners in the 16-18 age category will have the privilege of having their name etched on the trophy accompanying all previous winners.
