HUMBLE, TX (February 18, 2018) - In record-setting fashion 10th ranked Auburn has won the All-American Intercollegiate. The Tigers ran away with the title finishing a tournament record 42-under to win by 16 shots over defending champion No. 6 Baylor (-26).
Leading Auburn to their first win of the season was third place finisher Ben Schlottman (-12) and three other players inside the top-10. The group includes Jovan Rebula (T4; -11), Trace Crowe (T4; -11) and Brandon Mancheno (T7; -8).
Ole Miss led by individual runner-up Braden Thornberry (-13) was third at 23-under, South Carolina was paced to a fourth-place 21-under finish by medalist Keenan Huskey (-15) while in fifth it was host Houston at 15-under.
In the medalist race South Carolina senior Huskey was able to outlast playing partner and defending NCAA individual champion Thornberry, who made a late charge.
Huskey closed with a bogey-free 7-under 65 after posting consecutive rounds of 4-under 68 to begin his tournament on the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course. Huskey birdied seven times in the final round, four on the front side and three on the back, before parring the last two holes to just barely hold on for a two-shot win. Huskey had two lengthy birdie runs during the round carding four between Nos. 2-8 on the opening nine and three between the 13th-16th holes on the closing nine.
The win puts Huskey second on the all-time South Carolina win list, tied with Matt NeSmith and Carl Paulson.
Thornberry, a junior for Ole Miss, tried to keep pace and he charged hard birdieing five of his final eight holes including his final two holes only to come up just short. Overall on Sunday Thornberry birdied eight times and bogeyed once as he signed for a 7-under 65 that followed scores of 3-under 69 in rounds one and two.
With his runner-up finish, Thornberry solidified his #1 spot in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Ranking.
Schlottman (Auburn) was 12-under in third as three others; Rebula (Auburn), Crowe (Auburn) and Garrett May (Baylor) shared fourth at 11-under.
