Vanderbilt has won three of their last four events

STATESBORO, GA (March 18, 2018) - The third-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores took care of business on Sunday winning the Schenkel Invitational by eight shots over Georgia Southern. It was the second time in three years that Vanderbilt has won the Schenkel Invitational.
Vanderbilt tore apart Forest Heights Country Club over the course of three days finishing 29-under and with it their third win in of their last four tournaments. The three wins also matches the second highest single season total in program history behind the four they won in 2015-2016.
“I am so proud of this group and how they responded to the challenge this week,” said head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We learned last week that our actions determine our outcomes and we had to own taking a better approach mentally.
Leading the Vanderbilt charge was senior Theo Humphrey who was able to finally break through and pick up his first collegiate win.
Throughout his career Humphrey has had a number of close calls including a third-place finish in the individual portion of last year's NCAA Championship. However, Humphrey was able to break the door down on Sunday and earn his into the winners circle following a 13-under tally that saw him finish two-strokes in front of three others.
A semifinalist at the U.S. Amateur last year, Humphrey combined rounds of 66-69-68 playing the final 19 holes without a bogey. During the final round 4-under 68 the birdies for Humphrey's came in the form of three in a row between Nos. 7-9 with the fourth and final birdie dropping on the 18th to provide some extra padding.
During the week Humphrey had stretches of two, three and four birdies in a row while bogeying only three-times.
Also in the top-20 for Vanderbilt were Will Gordon (T6; -9) and John Augenstein (T17; -2).
The top-five of the individual standings included Jake Storey (Georgia Southern), Stephen Franken (NC State), Archer Price (Georgia Southern) in second at 11-under while Gordon and Taylor Grant (Mississippi State) shared fifth at 9-under.
In the team standings Georgia Southern took second with a 21-under showing, NC State was well back in third at 14-under, in fourth it was 13-under Mississippi State and in fifth sat 12-under Kentucky.
