CLINTON, SC (May 27, 2018) - Walt Todd, Jr and Brandon Truesdale fought back and held off the team of Matt Laydon and Chris Mitchell for a 4 & 3 victory to claim the title in the 2018 SCGA Four Ball Championship at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, SC.

Under cloudy skies and a little bit of rain early in the match, the team of Todd and Truesdale found themselves down early as two Matt Laydon birdies on holes two and four got their team out to a quick two up lead.

The former 2012 Champs never wavered, as Walt Todd answered with his own birdie putt on the par four sixth hole to get them back to one down. After trading pars on holes seven and eight, another birdie from Todd on the par five ninth hole sent the teams to the back side all square.

With an up and down greenside bunker shot from Truesdale for par on the tenth, the team had their first lead of the day. Their lead grew to 2 up after another Todd birdie on the par five 13th hole bettered the pars from Laydon and Mitchell. After missed par putts by Laydon and Mitchell on the 14th hole, Todd drained a clutch twelve-foot par putt to give them a 3 up lead with only four holes to play.

Todd and Truesdale were able to close the match out and claim victory on the par four 15th hole with par putts after Laydon and Mitchell both missed the green on their approach.

This is Walt Todd & Brandon Truesdale’s second SCGA Four Ball Championship and Chris Mitchell & Matt Laydon’s third time in the finals. Mitchell also played in the finals in 2016 with Taylor Ingle.

The 2018 SCGA Four-Ball Championship is one of 21 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. The 55th Annual event was played on the 6,779 yard, par 72 golf course at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, South Carolina.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Four-Ball

The Four Ball Championship is a great attraction as it has become the only Match Play event that the South Carolina Golf Association conducts. With 60 teams starting play, after two days of stroke play qualifying, 32 teams will advance to match play to square off against each other until there is only one team left.

By virtue of being one of the few Match Play events available in South Carolina, this is a great opportunity to play in a format that used to dominate tournament golf.
