COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 28, 2018) - Tim Hogarth (Northridge, CA) shot an even-par 70 to lead the amateur contingent after the first round of the 39th U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor.

A total of 24 amateurs teed off on Thursday, and on a day where the low score was 4-under 66 by leader Jerry Kelly, only Hogarth managed to match par.

It was a roller coaster round for Hogarth, who started quickly with two birdies in his first four holes to get to 2 under. But a three-car bogey train followed, and he made the turn at 1 over. He got it back into the red with two birdies early on his inward nine, and was still 1 under going into his final hole, but a bogey six put him back to even par.

Hogarth finished the first round inside the top 10, tied for 9th.

Last year's low amateur Robert Funk (Canyon Lake, CA) shot a 2-over 72, along with Mike Finster (St. Petersburg, FL) who is playing in his fourth straight U.S. Senior Open.

Frank Vana (Boxford, MA), Robby McWilliams (Benton, LA), and Bob Harrington (Portland, OR) all shot 3-over 73 and are the only other amateurs that are currently inside the projected cut line after the first round. The low 60 players and ties after 36 holes will advance to the weekend.
