BERLIN, GERMANY (July 14, 2018) – The European Amateur Team Championship ended Saturday with a victory for Finland at the Nick Faldo-designed Sporting Club Berlin in Germany.

To win the title, Finland had to get past England in the final. It did that by a 5-2 margin. The Finnish team got big points early in the day from the foursomes teams of Matias Honkala and Aleski Myllymaki (2-and-1 victory) and Sami Valimaki and Veeti Mahonen (5-and-4 victory). Later in the afternoon, Finland won two singles matches and halved two. Only England’s Gian Marco Petrozzi, who won the New South Wales Amateur in February, took a full point for his team when he defeated Valimaki.

This is Finland’s first European Team Championship title. England finished with the silver medal last year.

Before reaching the final against England, Finland defeated Germany in the semifinals, 4-3, and Sweden in the quarterfinals, 3-4.
