PASADENA, Calif. (July 15, 2018) –
Tim Hogarth has become the man to beat in the annual Pasadena City Amateur Championship. The 52-year-old won the event for a record sixth time on Sunday. It’s his sixth title since 2007 and third in the past four years.
Hogarth, of Northridge, Calif., finished three rounds at Brookside Golf Club at 5-under 209. He started the final round with back-to-back birdies and never looked back. An even-par 72 kept his chasers at bay.
Hogarth’s resume includes a win at the 1996 U.S. Amateur Public Links, a tournament the USGA discontinued after 2014. It earned him an invitation into the 1997 Masters. Hogarth also won four consecutive SCGA Mid-Amateur titles from 2007-10. He recently qualified for the U.S. Senior Open Championship at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo. After opening with 70, the lowest score of any amateur, he followed with an 81 to miss the cut.
After Hogarth, the only other player to finish 54 holes under par at Brookside was Brandon Gama. He went 1 under on the back nine on Sunday to reach 1-under 71 for the day and 1-under 213 for the tournament. Gama, 31, qualified for the 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur. The former Chico State player won the 2008 Santa Barbara City Championship.
Behind Gama, Freddy Esparza was three shots back at 2-over 216 followed by Tongun Lako Losarah at 4-over 218.
