NAPLES, Fla. (July 16, 2018) – Pete Williams claimed the Florida Senior Amateur Match Play title in a birdie-packed final match against Owen Joyner. Williams, of Juno Beach, Fla., is a past Senior Player of the Year who won the 2014 Senior Amateur Match Play.

A year ago, these two men met in the quarterfinals of this tournament. Joyner prevailed in 19 holes, and ultimately went on to win the tournament. It was his second FSGA Championship after winning the Senior Four-Ball in 2015.

This time, Williams came out of the gate at Golf Club of the Everglades with a birdie even though Joyner matched him on the next hole to even things. Williams threw out three birdies in a row at Nos. 5-7 and Joyner matched two of them. Still, Williams had a lead entering the back nine.

Ultimately, bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15 did Joyner in. Williams sealed his 3-and-2 victory with a birdie on the par-3 16th.

This victory is the latest in an impressive list of senior titles for Williams. Most recently, he won the 2016 Crane Cup senior and the 2015 Palm Beach Country Senior. In 2012, Williams became the first amateur to win the Florida Senior Open in the tournament’s history.
