LEVEN, Scotland (Aug. 12, 2018) – When Euan McIntosh won the Scottish Amateur at the beginning of the month, he announced plans to return to the professional game next year and try his hand at senior-tour golf. If McIntosh goes ahead with the plan after his 50th birthday in February, he’ll do it with at least one more feather in his cap. The 49-year-old won the Leven Gold Medal on Sunday, an event he also claimed a year ago.

McIntosh, who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, and plays out of Turnhouse Golf Club, got to 7-under 277 for the week at Leven Links thanks to a final-round 68. It was enough to leave him tied with Jim Johnston and force what would turn out to be a short playoff. McIntosh won the first playoff hole with birdie.

These back-to-back victories speak volumes for the state of McIntosh’s game, and for senior amateurs everywhere. After the Scottish amateur, which he won after defeating teenage Jamie Stewart, 3 and 2, McIntosh referenced a tip he had received that transformed the way he approached match play.

McIntosh has obviously put it into play in stroke play, as evidenced by the Leven Golf Medal victory.

Johnston and McIntosh finished four shots clear of the next-closest player. Jeff Wright, who plays out of Forres Golf Club, was third at 3 under. A year ago, McIntosh used a final-round 66 to win by three.

Only the top three players were under par at Leven Links. James White was fourth at even par and Rory Smith rounded out the top 5 at 3 over.
