SPARKS, Nev. (Sept. 9, 2018) – Guy Duensing won the Northern Nevada Amateur on the strength of an opening 2-over 74 at the Resort at Red Hawk’s Lakes Course. Duensing was able to hold on just tight enough in the second round to finish with the trophy.

Duensing’s opening round began with a birdie at the second hole. There was another birdie at the 16th, but he dropped two shots coming in with bogeys at Nos. 17 and 18. On Sunday, there were several more big numbers on the card – including a double bogey at No. 10 and bogeys again on Nos. 17 and 18 – but Duensing had done the hard work in the first round. His 10-over 154 finish left him one shot ahead of runner-up Owen Bartlett.

For his part, Bartlett fired a final-round 77 that showed some resolve. After opening with a 40 that included two double bogeys, he came back with a 1-over 37.

Scores were higher across the board on Sunday. Kirk Schwoyer finished solo third at 11 over after rounds of 74-81. Chance Callister was fourth at 12 over after the round of the day – a 3-over 75 that included birdies on this last two holes.
