ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (Sept. 28, 2018) – Defending champion Stewart Whitt of Athens led wire-to-wire to win his second consecutive Alabama State Mid-Amateur Championship title. The 34-year-old posted a final-round 1-under 71 for a 9-under 207 total that was five shots clear of runner-up Trip Smalley of Mobile.

“I played well all week. Obviously started well with a 64 on the first day. And then was pretty steady the next two days. It’s really cool to win this thing twice in a row,” Whitt said.

Whitt’s opening 64 included an opening bogey at No. 1 and a closing eagle at No. 18. There were seven birdies in between. His second-round 72 included just a single birdie and bogey. On Sunday, he split three bogeys – all on the front nine – with four birdies.

A four-way tie for third place at 3-under 213 included Clay Guerin, Matt Johnson, Steve Muncher and Sam Audia III.
