NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Oct. 2, 2018) – The majority of the field had finished the opening round of the Minnesota Mid-Amateur Monday evening when play was called for darkness. Only two groups remained on the Legends Course after the sun had set, and besides – Jordan Hawkinson had already played his way to a three-shot lead at companion course Willingers Golf Club.

Hawkinson has the clubhouse lead after a 7-under 65 that didn’t include a single bogey. He birdied Nos. 17 and 18 to really pull away from his chasers. The closest man to him is Trent Peterson, who won this event a year ago with a birdie on the final hole.

Peterson, playing on the Legends Course, had two bogeys on his day. He is making just his second start in this championship, having won last year in his first try. Peterson was the 2014 Minnesota Golf Association Men’s Player of the Year.

Two players are close behind Peterson at 3 under, including Jerry Rose who still has three holes to play in his second round. Jake Warneke has 3-under 69 on the Legends.

Justin Burleson, was finished in the top 5 at this event last year, is in the top five again after a first-round 70. He and Robert Newbold are tied for fifth at the number.
