TWIN FALLS, Idaho (Oct. 14, 2018) –
Colby Dean took the top spot at the Idaho Tournament of Champions on Sunday, just months after winning an even more coveted Idaho title: the state amateur. Dean had rounds of 77-71 this weekend at Blue Lakes Country Club to finish two shots ahead of Jake Slocum.
Dean, of Eagle, Idaho, is a former Chico State golfer who was also an accomplished high school player in Eagle. His stated intentions after winning the state amateur were to turn professional at the end of the summer and play pro events in Asia with the eventual goal of moving up to the PGA Tour.
Dean was 4 over for the tournament and Slocum was 6 over. Stephen Hartnett and Scott Vermeer, two golfers from Boise, Idaho, tied for third at 7 over.
In the senior division, Gary Lounsbury of Twin Falls, Idaho, had rounds of 76-74 for a 6-over total that left him two shots ahead of two pursuers. Dan Pickens and Kip Reeder had final-round scores of 73 and 72, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to catch Lounsbury.
In the women’s division, Abby Black of Meridian, Idaho, topped the leaderboard with back-to-back rounds of 80 at Blue Lakes Country Club. Black had a three-shot cushion entering the final round, and ended up with a four-shot victory on Lori Ruiz of Boise.
Kareen Markle topped the senior women’s division at 15 over after rounds of 83-78 at Blue Lakes.
