PRINCEVILLE, Kaua’i (Oct. 29, 2018) – The entire Pepperdine lineup went under par in the opening round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, and the Waves needed every one of those red numbers in Tuesday's second round to withstand a charge from their chasers. Even though Pepperdine backed up from an opening 15-under 273 to a 4-under 284, the team still leads by four shots. It's actually one shot better than Pepperdine's first-round lead.

The round of the day at Makai Golf Club at Princeville went to Missouri. The Tigers had a 13-under 275 (for a 15-under total) that allowed them to climb six spots on the leaderboard into second, right behind Pepperdine at 19 under. It was an impressive number considering that the second round was played under a constant rain.

Even though Pepperdine couldn’t duplicate its first-round effort in Round 2, Monday’s scoring was enough firepower to help the Waves tie the eighth-best 36-hole score in program history at 19 under. Pepperdine is playing for its second team title of the fall.

Pepperdine’s Josh McCarthy is 11 under (66-67) and tied for second individually. He would be the Waves’ third straight individual winner, should he catch McNeese State’s Blake Elliott.

Elliott, for his part, is 13 under after a second-round 63 that included 10 birdies and one bogey.

Behind Missouri at 15 under, Sam Houston State is third at 12 under. Alabama Birmingham is next at 10 under.

Twelve of the 20 teams in the field are under par through 36 holes.
