Arkansas ended its first round of the spring season with a slim one-shot lead on the field at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Razorbacks went 1 over at the Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, and lead TCU by one shot.
Arkansas has won this event three times, including last year in the midst of an historic season that culminated with an SEC title and an NCAA Regional win. This year, Arkansas entered the event – and the spring – ranked No. 6 in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings and with top-3 finishes in the fall.
The Razorbacks gained their advantage on the par 3s, going 2 under on those holes for the day. Dylan Kim led the charge with a 3-under 69 while Kaylee Benton and Maria Fassi added rounds of 1-under 71.
Behind TCU, Purdue and Kent State are tied for third at 4 over. Kent State is coming off a runner-up finish at the UCF Challenge and to this point in the season, only has three head-to-head losses.
East Carolina’s Dorthea Forbrigd opened with a 5-under 67 for the individual lead. She closed with four birdies and no bogeys over her final nine holes.
