Texas remains on top after chilly day at Allstate Sugar Bowl

Cold, rainy conditions greeted the field for the second round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, but Texas remained the team to beat. Scores rose across the board Monday at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans, and the Longhorns’ score did, too. Still, at even par for 36 holes, Texas has a four-shot cushion on defending champions USC.
The Longhorns turned in a 3-over 291 on Monday, which was the second-best team score of the day. Only Florida, at 1 over, had better, and the Gators moved up to fourth because of that score. Florida is seeking a title defense this week.
Texas sophomore Agathe Laisne had a 2-under 70, which was one of eight scores under par from the field. Senior Maddie Luitwieler had a second-round 73 and at 1 under, is tied for fourth. Freshman Hailee Cooper had a 76 that dropped her eight spots into a tie for 10th. Laisne is T-14.
Behind Texas, USC also had a 3-over 291 on Monday. The top-ranked Trojans are now at 4 over for the tournament.
Duke is two shots behind that, and also claims individual leader Ana Belac. She and Jaravee Boonchant both posted rounds of 72 on Monday.
