After two rounds at the Jones Cup Senior, Lewis Stephenson and Danny Nelson are tied for the lead. Both men are 4 over at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.
After opening with even-par 70 on Monday, Stephenson cooled off with the weather on Tuesday. He had no birdies in a 4-over 74, but instead had a bogey and a double bogey.
Nelson, on the other hand, started slow on Tuesday with four consecutive bogeys at Nos. 2-5, but ended his day with birdies on three of his final four holes.
The two lead some very notable names in senior golf. Doug Hanzel, AmateurGolf.com’s 2017 Senior Player of the Year, is third at 5 over.
A five-man tie for fourth at 6 over includes Bob Royak, No. 2 in the current AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings, as well as Gene Elliott, AGC’s 2018 Senior Player of the Year, who opened with 69 but followed with 77. Elliott is the defending champion this week.
