Stanford earned its first team title since 2017 on Saturday by winning its home event, The Goodwin. The Cardinal finished atop a colossal 27-team field at Stanford Golf Course.

After 54 holes, Stanford had put 18 shots between themselves and runner-up USC. After back-to-back opening rounds of 1-under 279, the home team went 6 under in the final round.

Stanford entered the week ranked No. 31 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, and scored meaningful head-to-head wins on four teams ranked inside the top 15.

Behind USC, the No. 7-ranked team, Oklahoma was third at 14 over and California was fourth at 15 over. First-round leader Washington ended up fifth.

With so much space between first and second, the real drama came at the top of the individual award, but Stanford was the focus there, too. Cardinal teammates Brandon Wu and David Snyder finished at 4 over for the event, but only after Snyder drained a 40-footer for birdie on the 18th hole to get to that number.

In the end, Wu prevailed in the playoff for the individual title, the first of his college career.

"To have a guy have so many close calls and a great career at Stanford over the course of four years and play in almost every tournament and have his first win come in The Goodwin in the 50th is a pretty special deal," said Stanford head coach Conrad Ray. "He'll remember that the rest of his life and we will, too."

Cal’s Collin Morikawa, BYU’s Peter Kuest and USC’s Kaito Onishi tied for third two shots back.
